Taranaki Outdoor Pursuits & Education Centre

The Taranaki Outdoor Pursuits & Education Centre has been providing people young and old with a tailored, immersive outdoor experience and connection with te taiao for over 35 years. In 2024, we launched a project to enable a vital upgrade of their facilities, including the construction of a new lodge building.

Located just 7 kilometres from New Plymouth beneath our maunga, TOPEC is renowned for building the confidence of our young people and having a profound intergenerational impact.

Regarded as a trusted place of experiential learning, TOPEC has been operating at maximum capacity for some time. But just to satisfy current demand and then deepen their community impact by servicing new audiences, TOPEC badly need to expand their capacity.

A new lodge for TOPEC

TOPEC is a revered Taranaki institution, inspiring growth, learning and expanded potential for our children, youth and community.

Regarded as a trusted place of experiential learning, TOPEC has been operating at maximum capacity for some time. Their programmes for both youth and adults encompass bush skills, water safety, tramping and rafting. Manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga are woven throughout their experiences.  But in order to simply satisfy current demand and then deepen their community impact by servicing new audiences, TOPEC badly needs a new larger lodge.

With the support of New Plymouth District Council, Location Homes, TOI Foundation and the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT), NP Partners have launched the TOPEC Lodge Project. This already has the support of 15 Partners.
