Destination Play

The creation of an inter-generational learning and play space at historic Kāwaroa Park on the Ngāmotu - New Plymouth foreshore.

Together, we are building Destination Play, transforming Ngāmotu-New Plymouth’s Kāwaroa Park for all ages to play, enjoy and explore – a place that will gather our community and celebrate our region’s rich culture, heritage, ecology. It will be a futuristic family-friendly experience that brings the unique nature, culture, histories and stories of the site playfully alive.

Destination Play at Kāwaroa is an initiative of the Tarananki Foundation, led by Bryce Barnett, and the foundation partnership project with NP Partners, Ngāti Te Whiti and New Plymouth District Council

The commencement of Stage One construction is scheduled for Summer 2024. The remaining funds for delivery of Stage Two are currently being raised through generous philanthropic donations, sponsorships, and valuable in-kind contributions from individuals, organisations, funders, and trusts. In addition, NP Partners and Taranaki Foundation are actively promoting public engagement and encouraging contributions to ensure the complete realisation of the project. See more here.
